| CICLO DEL RITORNO |

The "ciclo del ritorno" ranges over half a millennium, from the beginnings of Western musical culture to the music of our time. The programme includes works from the Renaissance and Baroque alongside works by contemporary composers, mostly from Switzerland.
Of crucial importance here are the different playing techniques and sound production methods of string instruments. Thus original works for cello and viola da gamba have been transcribed for viola.
One focal point of the programme is the first performance of Transposito ad infinitum by the Swiss composer Klaus Huber in its transcription for solo viola.
The newest work is ciclo per viola by the Italian composer Giorgio Netti, which will be given its world première in the ciclo del ritorno. It deals with the topic of returning into oneself. By engaging profoundly with the sound of the viola, its means of sound production and its development in time and space, Netti succeeds in tracing a broad arc, not just across his own work, but over the programme as a whole.

Ein interkulturelles arabisch-schweizerisches Projekt.
Das Projekt zeigt sehr schön, wie inspirierte Musiker mit Kompetenz, Kreativität und Frische neue Wege der Kommunikation zwischen den Kulturen zu gehen wagen. Das Projekt ist in der Schweiz verwurzelt, schaut aber offen und unvoreingenommen über die Landesgrenzen hinaus. Wie der Titel impliziert, begeben sich alle Beteiligten freudig auf die Reise, sind offen für Kommunikation und Neues, schaffen Verbindungen, zeigen aber auch Grenzen auf.
Mit Spannung kann sowohl der Umgang der Spieler mit dem aussergewöhnlichen Instrumentarium, wie auch die Auseinandersetzung der Komponisten mit der vorgegebenen interkulturellen Thematik beobachtet werden. Das kurzweilige und abwechslungsreiche Programm ermöglicht den Zuhörenden verschiedene klangvolle, poetische, mal ernste, mal lustige Blickwinkel zum Dialog zwischen Okzident und Orient.

| VIOLABOOM AM KONSI |

Bratschisten sind langsam, begriffsstutzig, schwerfällig, gescheiterte Geigenspieler und müssen nicht üben. Noch vor zehn Jahren gab es am Konsi kaum Violaschülerinnen und -schüler, heute sind es bereits 43. Und der Bereich wächst weiter. Weshalb dieser Erfolg?
2002 inizierten die zwei Schwestern, Anna Spina (Viola) und Antonietta Spina (Geigenbauerin) an der Musikschule Konservatorium Bern das Violaförderprojekt. Die Idee war, dass Kinder aller Altersstufen auf der Suche nach einem Instrument neben allen andern Instrumenten auch die Viola ausprobieren konnten. Zu diesem Zweck entwickelte und baute die Geigenbauerin Antonietta Spina gut klingende Kinderviolen. Der Boom, der daraus resultierte, war nicht voraussehbar.
Heute fangen schon Fünfjährige mit 1⁄8-Violen an, Instrumenten also, die den kleinen Kindern in der Grösse entsprechen. Viele Kinder haben am Tag der offenen Tür die warme und volle Klangfarbe der Viola für sich entdeckt und sind nun begeistert am Violaspielen.
Die Perspektiven für Violaspielerinnen und -spieler sind ausgezeichnet. Mit der Wahl zur Viola fällen Kinder nicht nur einen Entscheid für ein Instrument mit wundervollem Klang, sondern werden auch zu gefragten Mitspielern in Orchestern und Kammermusikgruppen. |

| TROIS FEMMES - QUATRE SENS |

trois femmes - quatre sens is based on the original project "trois femmes", extended by the collaboration of Swiss Composer Michel Roth.
"trois femmes" was awarded within the cultural program "China 2008-2010" of Pro Helvetia. "trois femmes" is an intensive, intimate project, resulting of personal contact and direct dialog. It is a collaboration between Chinese composer Yi Xu, Swiss composer Katrin Frauchiger and violist Anna Spina. The three women deal with intercultural topics both in China and Switzerland and research the conversion into music. Also Michel Roths new work for viola solo deals with the subject China. It is planed to include texts of Nicolas Bouvier, a writer from the French part of Switzerland.
Out of this project result three new solo pieces for viola, lectures, round tables and masterclasses. The aim is to present the new developed compositions with concerts as well in China as in Switzerland.

| POUSSIÈRE D'ETOILE |

The music theater solo-program, Poussières d'étoiles, from violist Anna Spina, is an ambitious, as well as a poetically- acoustic concert experience.
In her program, the polyvalent and creative musician, Anna Spina combines contemporary music for viola from Salvatore Sciarrino with the world-renowned théâtre musical composer, Georges Aperghis and Manos Tsangaris. Anna Spina also gives a platform for young composers to present themselves, such as, New Yorker Elizabeth Adams. She is also proud, as fellow Bernese, to include works from prized Swiss composers such as Heinz Holliger and Jürg Wyttenbach in her repertoire.
The innovative work combining viola and light from Manos Tsangaris provides a laconic counterpoint to the free-flowing imaginative live-video performances from Georges Aperghis and Elizabeth Adams, which allows Anna Spina to present her musical, as well as vocal and stagecraft abilities. Along with Jürg Wyttenbach's sensational piece for singing violinist, this program makes for an interdisciplinary well-rounded concert experience. |
